Good Afternoon everyone,
We have a series of photos today showing some of the finishing work that is now underway. We now have our diving boards installed ( we still have to get the 1 metre board from the Aquannis centre when they are finished with it).

In this photo you can see that the swirl pool tiling is now complete and the wave pool basin tiling is now nearing completion also. all efforts are going into getting ready for the North American Indigenous Games that we will hosting in the Lap pool on August 6-8.

On the outside of the facility we are hard at work on the landscaping. Here you can see one of mant trees being planted. this one is on the north side of the building near the entrance.

On the west side of the building you can see the retaining walls and more trees that are beng planted. At the far end the irrigation is being installed.

that's all for this week. Have a good one.

paint & polish

Good morning everyone,
Welcome to the build the pool blog for the week of June 30/08. We are now getting to the stage where alot of finishing work is beginning and you can get a sense of how things will look when everything is complete. We have cabinetry coming in and being installed, ceilings are being installed, more doors installed, and paving and landscaping work in progress.
As you look around inside the facility you will notice that more of the mural is completed and more of the coastal rainforest look is being added with artificial rocks and wood look railings adding to the theme. Below you can see by the photo that the east wall at the centre, which houses the mechanical rooms, that more of the mural has been completed.

The next photo is also part of this mural and is located behind the diving boards at the Lap pool.

The third photo shows the reception area with the pro shop forming up on the left side.

The final photo shows the building frontage on James street with the facility name and the stylized wave at the top. There is also a stylized wave on the front of the building on the north side.

Thank you for your continued interest. We'll be back next week with another update on the Cowichan Aquatic Centre.

first day of summer

A glorious sunny day for the first day of summer!
I hope eveyone gets a chance to enjoy a bit of sunshine today.
The sign guys showed up yesterday and put up our new sign, it looks great! There is still a fancy wave that will be installed as part of the signage, so when they complete that i'll put up another photo.

This photo is showing the progress of the tiling in the wave pool.

We have ceiling tiles! What a difference it makes to the rooms, it finishes things off nicely. We still have flooring and finish work on the electrical and fire suppresion, but it is looking good.

a snapshot of the painting in the female change room. You can see the colours that will theme this area.

Well back to the grindstone, we'll see you next week. Enjoy today, it only comes around once.

Friday the 13th

Hello Folks,
I started this blog on friday and couldn't get back to it until this morning. Here are some more photos showing the progress of construction of the Cowichan Aquatic Centre. This first photo is one of the water features in the wave pool. Each of these pipes delivers a different stream of water. One flows out of the end like a steam of water, one has multiple nozzles on the top and sprays up, the last one is made to have the flow run out along the length of the pipe like a small waterfall.

This next photo shows the wave pool from the slide tower. You will notice the features and the blue wall in the background.

I put the photo below in to show you colour of the feature wall in the fitness area. I was dubious of the choice initially, but it turned out to be really effective.

The final photo is an outside shot of the entrance way between the Cowichan Community Centre and the Cowichan Aquatic Centre.

Thank you for your interest. I'll have more for you later this week.

let there be light

Hello again,

Here are some new photos for your enjoyment. The first one is the start of the construction of a storage area on deck at the deep end of the lap pool. You can see where the wall juts to the left and if you look where the wheelbarrow and blocks are you will see where the diving boards will be situated.

The next photo shows the last section of the red water slide being bolted together. The only things left to do now are to hook up the water supply to the slide and add the controls.

This next photo shows the lights in the pool area being turned on for the first time. The clusters that you see in the photo are the coloured lights that will highlight the features and add some ambience to the space.

The final photo is the start of the landscaping work for the entrance to the pool. Landscaping is going on on three sides of the building at the moment and will be ongoing for a while yet.

Thanks for your interest. Have a good week and I'll have some more information and photos up at the end of the week.
