Good afternoon,
Welcome to the Cowichan Aquatic Centre construction blog.
Below are 4 photos that give you an idea of progress on the construction of the new aquatic facility that we are building.
The first photo highlights the mural that is being created on the east wall inside the pool area.
The photo below is of the elevator that is being put together onsite now. So far we have have 3 walls and a floor and ceiling!
This next photo is taken from the slide tower and shows the lazy river with the spray arch and manufactured rock work.
The final photo this week is of our swirl pool. as you can see the tiling is almost complete and the tilers have moved to the lazy river.
Thank you for your interest. Have a good day.

May 23/08
Good day folks,
It's a lovely almost sunny day here in the Cowichan Valley. This week we have a mix of photos from different parts of the construction site.
The first photo shows the coloured lighting that is suspended over the leisure pool to give some ambience and highlight some of the features in the leisure pool area.
The second shows a hint of the mural that will eventually span the entire east wall of the pool area. This section is in the corner where the slides are located and gives you a taste of the rain forest theme that will dominate the facility.
The third photo shows a bunch of styrofoam blocks on the deck and walls of the lazy river. These blocks are the infrastructure of the decorative rock work that is being made around the decks.
In the last photo you can see the formed rock work in the foreground. These are hand made, built on the styroam blocks.
Enjoy your weekend. Back next week with more..

Cowichan Aquatic Centre in May
Good Morning,
I hope everyone is getting ready to enjoy the great weather and the long weekend. The construction crew at the aquatic centre are all looking forward to a long weekend. I noticed that there seemed to be a lot of workers around so I asked someone and was told that there were over 70 people working here on a daily basis! It's amazing how much of a difference it has made, things are rolling along at a good clip.
The first photo in todays series is showing the start of the tiles being installed in the shallow end of the lap pool.
The second photo also shows some tile work in the lap pool. these fellows are working in the deep end of the lap pool and tiling around one of the under water lights.
The image above was taken from the shallow end of the lap pool towards the east end of the complex. You can see mechanical room, main floor being framed in and to the right of the framing are the steam room and sauna. The benches in the steam room are being formed up for concrete and will ultimately be tiled.
The final photo today is a picture of one of the ultra violet disinfection chambers. There will be 3 of these units, one each for the lap pool, leisure pool and swirl pool. These units along with the addition of chlorine will keep our water disinfected.
Thanks again for your your continued interest. We'll be back next week for another update. Have a great long weekend!

next..
Good morning,
We are moving into new territory now with the outside road work and landscaping starting up. The first area that is being worked on is the entrance between the Cowichan centre and the Cowichan Aquatic Centre under the big stick. The work here is working on the drainage and bringing up the level of the driveway to match the two facilities and create a nice transition between the two facilities. The photo below shows where we are at now.
The next photo shows the heat exchanger for the lap pool on the main floor ceiling of the mechanical room.
This photo shows the heat exchanger for the leisure pool which is mounted over the backwash tank, also located on the main floor ceiling in the mechanical room.
The final photo today shows the swirl pool with all of the decks and benches poured, not quite ready for swimming in but, the infrastructure is now in place.
And so construction continues, lots of drywall being installed in the entrance way, change areas and in the pool areas, the air handling equipment is now being assembled in the mechanical room, and the lap pool is being prepared for the tiling to begin, and the slide components have arrived on site and are being assembled as I write. We've come a long way baby! Still lots to do, i'll keep you in the loop in the upcoming weeks. If there is anything specific that you would like to see or ask about, please respond to this post and I'll be happy to respond.Until next, have a good day.
